WOODGREEN COMMUNITY SERVICES

Woodgreen Community Services , a non-profit publicly and privately funded east end Toronto organization, undertook to purchase and renovate an abandoned solid masonry building group on Danforth Ave. to house classrooms, meeting rooms, a daycare centre and staff spaces for their Immigration Services. The focus of the work, being extremely budget conscious, was efficiency of space, and a high degree of re-use and recycling wherever possible. Within that framework the design strives to provide a welcoming environment for newcomers to Canada and to give them a sense of opportunity and social equality.
